Have you ever found yourself thinking:
“I don’t feel like myself anymore.”
You may look like you’re coping on the outside, yet inside you feel numb, disconnected or as though you’re simply moving through the motions of life without sensation.
If this resonates, you’re not alone.
As a trauma-informed embodiment coach, I often meet people who have spent years trying to understand their experiences through talking, thinking and analysing, yet still feel disconnected from themselves. The truth is, trauma doesn’t only affect the mind, it also affects the body and nervous system and its here we can get lost going around in circles.
Trauma doesn’t just live in your memories it lives in your cells. The body remembers!
When we experience overwhelming stress, loss or adversity, our nervous system adapts to help us survive.
For some people this means living in a constant state of anxiety or hypervigilance. For others, it can look like feeling emotionally numb, disconnected from the body, or unable to access joy, pleasure or creativity.
These responses are not signs that something is wrong with you. They are intelligent survival responses. They helped protect us when the pain was too much to bear.
The beautiful news is that your body also holds the capacity for healing and by reconnecting with your body you also reconnect with joy, your life force and inner wisdom.
So why does embodiment matter?
Embodiment is the practice of reconnecting with your body so you can experience life from a place of presence rather than survival.
Healing is not about forcing yourself to “move on.” It’s about creating enough safety within your body to reconnect with your emotions, intuition and inner wisdom.
Through trauma-informed embodiment practices such as conscious breath-work, mindful movement, nervous system regulation, Tantra and body awareness, it becomes possible to gently shift from surviving to truly living.
The body speaks before the mind understands
Your body is constantly communicating with you.
Sometimes through tension.
Sometimes through fatigue.
Sometimes through a deep feeling that something isn’t aligned.
Learning to listen to these signals can transform the way you make decisions, set boundaries and care for yourself.
Rather than constantly asking, “What should I do?” you begin asking:
“What is my body telling me?”
This simple shift can help you build trust in yourself again.
A simple practice to begin reconnecting
One of the easiest ways to reconnect with your body is by pausing before making a decision and asking yourself:
Does this feel like a yes in my body?
Or…
Does this feel like a no?
Your body often knows the answer before your mind catches up.
The more you practise listening, the stronger your connection to your intuition becomes.
If you need some guidance you can start with my free Yes/No Body Check- check the link in my bio or go the "FREE TOOLS" Section on my website.
This simple guided practice will help you:
● Reconnect with your body.
● Strengthen your intuition.
● Recognise your body’s yes and no signals.
● Begin moving from survival to self-connection.
It’s a gentle first step towards living with greater clarity, confidence and inner peace.
Healing doesn’t begin by becoming someone new.
It begins by remembering who you have always been.
You're not broken! You're whole.
